Getting Ready for the Albany Comic Con

Today’s the spring edition of the Albany Comic Con, a twice-annual gathering of readers, creators and dealers from around the northeast, held in Albany, New York. I’m going, as is my entire family (minus the cats). I think I missed the last show, last fall, much to my regret, but circumstances and finances worked against me. Today’s show will be a bit of a challenge since my daughter is still on crutches from breaking her foot a few weeks back, but we’re going early in hopes of beating the crowd. She’ll need room to maneuver, after all. It’s not so much her I’m worrying about, as the crowd, you see. She can swing those crutches like nobody’s business.

A friend asked me last night if I am looking for any particular item, and other than a NM copy of Amazing Fantasy #15 on sale for ten bucks or less, no, I’m just going to see what’s what. Lately I’ve been accumulating selected toys from the Marvel Select line (looking for good sculpts of characters that resonate with me and remind me of good comics, so, no Venom or Carnage, thank you), but I already have most of the easily affordable ones, so we’ll see if I actually come away with any swag. On Facebook artist Mark McKenna is showing off a sweet-looking Alan Scott Green Lantern print that might tempt me if I fall within its event horizon.

Hoping to see some of my friends in comics, like Mick and Tim and Darren and Kristi and Alicia and Mike and Roger, oh, my…

And lunch is planned for my favourite remaining Albany restaurant (now that Garcia’s is gone), Ichiban. Amazing Asian food at unbelievable reasonable prices. My son loves the duck. I can’t bring myself to put duck in my mouth, but more power to him. Duck, comics, action figures, connecting with friends — hopefully today will have something for everyone.

Note: The Albany Comic Con is an advertiser on my websites, but I wrote this for fun, not profit. That’s what comics is all about, after all.
